CAS offers free adoptions on adult dogs, cats through weekend

NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) -- Starting Wednesday, Charleston Animal Society is offering free adoptions on all adult dogs and cats at the shelter.

According to Joe Elmore, Chief Executive Officer of Charleston Animal Society, the organization currently has more animals in its system than in any other time in its history.{}

"We really need the community to come to our assistance and help us make desperately needed space in the shelter," he said. "Currently, we have in excess of 700 animals both in house and in foster homes.{} As we get into the summer months, we know that the inflow of animals will only increase."{}

All pets from CAS come spayed or neutered, fully vaccinated, microchipped and eligible for free health exams.

"The most important thing we do is save lives, and we need the public's assistance in helping us achieve our goal of finding good homes for all healthy and treatable animals that come through our doors," Elmore said.

Free adult animals are only available at Charleston Animal Society's shelter at 2455 Remount Rd. in North Charleston.{} The shelter is open:

Wednesday, May 28 - Friday, May 31st 12:00PM - 6:00PM

Saturday, June 1 from 10 a.m. - 6 p.m.

Sunday, June 2 from10 a.m. - 6 p.m.

Animals from the Society are also available on weekends at PetSmart stores at 2076 Sam Rittenberg Blvd., West Ashley and 676 Long Point Rd. in Mount Pleasant.{} Adoption hours for these locations are:

Friday:{} 12-5:30 p.m.

Saturday: 11-5:30 p.m.

Sunday: 12-4 p.m.
