CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) -- The man's body found in a wooded area by children near the town of Ravenel was identified Friday evening by the coroner's office.
The Charleston County Coroner identified the man as 67-year-old James Butler.
Charleston County Sheriff's Office officials said Friday afternoon that the body found in the woods by a group of children playing hide-and-seek would be investigated as a homicide.
Officials based that announcement off injuries on the body, but did not say what those injuries were.
According to a source on the scene, children were playing off of Roper Run Road extension near Savannah Highway in Ravenel when they discovered the body behind a vacant house.
The children told their mother and she called 911 around 11:15 a.m.
Our crew at the scene says there are at least 10 officials, including CCSO spokesperson James Brady at the location.
Brady says the body is a male and that it is unknown if foul play is involved. He says there are no missing persons reports from around the area and that there is No reason for the community to be worried.
Detectives have not determined a motive or the identity of the victim yet, officials said.
