RAVENEL, S.C. (WCIV) - A body found in the marsh near a Ravenel boat landing is a criminal investigation, Dorchester County deputies said Wednesday morning. The coroner's office said Thursday the man died as a result of homicide.

The body was found by surveyors working near Bulow Boat Landing Road, Charleston County deputies said. Officials said the body was found in the marshes of Rantowles Creek around 8 a.m. Wednesday.

The Dorchester County Coroner identified the body as 28-year-old Abner Lopez, of North Charleston. The coroner has not released the cause of death.

Meanwhile, investigators at the scene said they were trying to recreate what happened with a dive team, fire department personnel, and a mobile command center.

Officials said they were also checking missing persons reports to see if the body matched a description in one of those.
