CCSO: Deceased bicyclist was charged with felony DUI
CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) -- Officials with the Charleston County Sheriff's Office have confirmed the bicyclist killed in an accident on Folly Road Thursday night was charged with felony DUI in an accident on the same stretch of road in October.
According to Major James Brady with the Charleston County Sheriff's Office, 31-year-old Mathew Reid Fisher of Charleston was traveling on Folly Road with the flow of traffic and sideswiped an SUV traveling in the same direction. Brady says Fisher then lost control of the bike and was hit by another vehicle.
Fisher was transported to MUSC with serious injuries and was later pronounced dead from blunt force head trauma.
Fisher was arrested in October. Investigators with the Charleston County Sheriff's Office say he hit a pedestrian at the intersection of Folly Road and South Grimball. The accident took place as pedestrians made their way to their homes and parking areas after the Skinful Halloween Party.
The pedestrian deputies say Fisher hit, Beau Froehlich, was in a coma for a week at MUSC before he lost his life.
