CCSO, CPD investigating shots fired on James Island

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) -- Dispatch operators have confirmed that Charleston County Sheriff's deputies responded to a report of shots fired on James Island.

Officials said multiple shots were fired at the intersection of Folly Road and Fort Johnson Rd. around 2:30 a.m. Wednesday.

SWAT and Charleston City Police were also on scene. Police said their investigation centered on a house at the intersection of Secessionville and Fort Johnson roads.

No injuries have yet been reported and authorities have arrested two suspects.

The suspects were identified as 21-year-old Tyler Austin Miller and 22-year-old Devin Storm McLemore. CCSO officials said both men already had active warrants against them.

Miller is charged with second and third degree assault and battery. McLemore is charged with second degree assault.

According to a report from CPD, responding officers both heard gunfire and saw a person open the rear door of the home and fire a handgun into the back yard. Once they realized the address was in CCSO's jurisdiction, they turned the case over to deputies.

Commuters experienced traffic delays as police searched around Fort Johnson, Kentwood, and Secessionville Roads on James Island.

Secessionville Rd. on James Island was blocked around the 1400 block until around 8 a.m.
