NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) -- Law enforcement officials are on the scene of an incident at Trader World Gun & Range on Cross County Rd. in North Charleston.
A spokesperson with the Charleston County Sheriff's Office says a Charleston County Detention Center officer accidentally shot himself in the right leg while putting his gun back in its holster during the second course of training.
He and other members of the jail's transport team were at the range for their annual firearm qualification training.
"Proper weapons handling and the safety of all Sheriff's Office personnel is paramount, therefore, the Sheriff's Office has temporarily suspended all weapons qualifications pending a thorough review of this incident," said CCSO Capt. Eric Watson in a release.
The officer, who has been with the department since April of 2008, was taken to the hospital. Capt. Watson said he was treated for two graze wounds and released.
The officer will be placed on Administrative Leave with pay pending the review.
