CCSO: Suspect arrested for multiple armed robberies
CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) -- Charleston County Sheriff's deputies arrested a man they believe is responsible for multiple armed robberies in the Johns Island area.The suspect, 24-year-old William Joseph Owens was arrested Wednesday night and charged with kidnapping, burglary in the first degree, two counts of possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime, and two counts of armed robbery. According to an incident report, the victim answered his door on the evening of June 30 and found the suspect holding a gun, demanding money. The suspect reportedly entered the Fickling Hill Road home, took about $100, and then fled in a vehicle. Deputies said a similar suspect also robbed another victim at gunpoint just a few hours earlier. Both victims were Hispanic men and did not speak English very well.In the previous incident, the suspect reportedly hid in some bushes on Maybank Highway until he saw his victim walking by. The affidavit states Owens pointed a gun at the victim and took about $500 from him before forcing him to go inside his camper and lie on the floor. The victim told deputies he was on the floor for five to 10 minutes when Owens knocked on the door to make sure the victim had not called the cops.CCSO officials said more charges are pending.
