CCSO takes a bite out of grime with Explorer Car Wash

NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV)-- The Charleston County Sheriffs Office Explorer Post 555 held a car wash near the Tanger Outlets Saturday.The Explorers, a group of young adults learning about law enforcement, are in need of funds to participate in an upcoming statewide competition which includes driving a police cruiser and firing police weapons. "We train them just like we're trained," said CCSO Sergeant Harold Phillips. "They do reports, they learn how to handle domestics, traffic accidents, traffic stops, the whole nine yards."The group is open to kids between the ages of 14 and 21-years-old who have an interest in law enforcement or a career in law enforcement."They spend a lot of time with law enforcement officers," said Sgt. Phillips. "They really get a good grasp of what to expect."Money earned at the car wash will go towards uniforms and equipment for the competition."Year-round, we do a lot of training," Sgt. Phillips said, "It takes money to go to these training courses, our competitions, and certainly to get the equipment and uniforms needed to attend those."Folks who donated money along with getting their car washed also got VIP discount cards from Denny's.
