MONCKS CORNER, S.C. (WCIV) -- Berkeley County officials, business owners and residents are gathering Monday to celebrate the completion of a multi-year highway project.
The Highway 17A project wrapped up last week after years of work on the nine-mile stretch of highway between Summerville and Moncks Corner.
On Monday, business and county leaders will talk about what it means to them to have the road project completed. Among those in attendance will be County Supervisor Dan Davis, who also kicked off construction four years ago.
"This is one of many steps we are taking to ensure the roads are safer and more reliable not only for us, but for our children and our children's children," Davis said.
The project was one of the first to begin construction after being funded by the 2008 one-cent sales tax referendum.
The ceremony will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Calvary Baptist Church in Moncks Corner, near Black Tom Road and Highway 17A.
Parking is available in the church parking lot.
