Charleston Powder Magazine 300 years old

CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) - What is believed to the oldest public building in South Carolina is celebrating its 300th birthday.

Ceremonies are scheduled for Saturday at the Powder Magazine in downtown Charleston to mark the occasion.

The Powder Magazine stored gunpowder during colonial times, but now is a museum.

Saturday's event includes remarks from noted South Carolina historian Walter Edgar as well as music from a fife and drum corps and the firing of a musket volley.

At noon, the new exhibit at the Powder Magazine is being unveiled.
