CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) - Charleston's digital corridor continues to grow and employees in the city's tech industry are earning notably more than their peers, according to a Charleston Digital Corridor survey.
Member companies in the digital corridor said average annual wages are nearly $72,000, which is 1.85 times the state average ($38,700) and 1.74 times the regional average ($41,180).
In addition, several Charleston businesses were named in the Inc. Magazine list of 500 fastest growing companies, pointing to a thriving technology industry in the Lowcountry.
BoomTown ROI, Blue Acorn and SPARC were among the list of 500 in Inc. Magazine's annual list.
That growth and the average wage levels have contributed to the tech industry's growth with 94 percent of the companies reporting staff increases this year and 88 percent expected to continue add staff in 2014.
Half of the tech companies in the digital corridor said they expected to add more office space in the coming year.
"Charleston's tech economy continues a pattern of significant strength as demonstrated by the 2013 survey," said Digital Corridor Foundation Chairman Kirk King. "Our sharpened focus on talent development through CODEcamp will ensure that tech companies in Charleston have the skilled workforce to grow their enterprise."
