WEST ASHLEY, S.C. (WCIV) -- The Avondale Business District was turned into a creative arts festival Sunday with music, performances, and art lessons.
From noon until 6 p.m. Sunday, chART Aid entertained people in the parking lot behind Gene's Haufbrau and The Roost, where a massive mural greets people who visit the shops of Avondale during the week.
Hungry patrons had a selection of food trucks, vendors and the local restaurants.
"This alley many, many years ago was kind of a dangerous alley, and now people go out of their way to walk back here. We have had the street lights brightened so that it feels safer and the art can be seen at night," said Geoff Richardson, the founder of chART.
Organizers used the festival to kick off the newest display that features graphic art, graffiti, street sculptures and animation from several local and Columbia artists.
The entire event was free and open to the public.
