Cherokee County officials identify man's body

GAFFNEY, S.C. (AP) -- Cherokee County officials have identified a man whose body was found in a field across the street from a homeless shelter in Gaffney.

Coroner Dennis Fowler says a cab driver found 58-year-old Hank Duane Reynolds of Chesnee shortly before 8 a.m. Tuesday. Temperatures were less than 10 degrees.

Fowler says Reynolds had been brought to the Harbor of Hope shelter at around 5:30 p.m. Monday after being discharged from a hospital, where he had told attendants he did not have heat in his home.

An autopsy has been scheduled for Wednesday morning to help determine if the man died from a medical condition prior to hyperthermia.
