CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) -- A new restaurant franchise catering to people with a hankering for chicken salad announced it would be opening a franchise in Summerville.
The company announced last May it had plans to expand into the Charleston area last fall.
Chicken Salad Chick representatives said Thursday morning that the newest location would be on Azalea Boulevard.
"We are so happy to be bringing such a classy, Southern concept to an area that truly embodies Southern charm," said owners Julie Beville and Michelle Singleton. "We have no doubt that chicken salad lovers in the Charleston area will fall in love with this extraordinary product!"
Company representatives said the Summerville location would not replace the downtown Charleston location that was supposed to take over Andolini's.
"We definitely still plan to open a restaurant downtown, but those plans are currently on hold. We hope to know the details in the coming month or so," said marketing assistant Meggie Schissler.
The Auburn-based company touts itself as a fast-casual restaurant offering 15 varieties of chicken salad along with soups, salads, and fresh-baked desserts.
A company representative said last year executives hoped the Charleston store would be the first of several in the Lowcountry.
The company has locations in eight cities in South Carolina, Georgia, Florida and Alabama already and is working on opening four more franchises.
