CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) -- A new restaurant franchise catering to people with a hankering for chicken salad has plans to expand into the Charleston area this fall.

Chicken Salad Chick representatives said Thursday morning that the company was still under lease negotiations, so a final location has not been set, but they hope to land their first location in downtown Charleston.

"We have been enormously blessed with franchisees who share our passion for the Chicken Salad Chick concept and want to grow it in their communities," said Kevin Brown, president of Chicken Salad Chick. "By year's end, we will have restaurants in cities throughout Southeast, including Charleston."

The Auburn-based company touts itself as a fast-casual restaurant offering 15 varieties of chicken salad along with soups, salads, and fresh-baked desserts.

The Charleston restaurant, opening fall 2013 is owned by franchisee Grace Foerster of Coastal Bites, LLC.{}

"I can't wait to introduce my favorite lunch spot to the people of my favorite city," Foerster said. "I fully expect the people of Charleston to fall in love with Chicken Salad Chick as quickly as I did."

A company representative said executives hoped the Charleston store would be the first of several in the Lowcountry.

The company has locations in eight cities in South Carolina, Georgia, Florida and Alabama already and is working on opening four more franchises.
