Citadel cadets give back on Leadership Day
CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) -- Cadets at The Citadel are finding out that before you can lead, you must follow and serve.
About 2,000 cadets, active duty and veteran students are taking part in Leadership Day on Wednesday.
They are heading out to help at a Charleston area food bank, an elementary school and to clean up athletic fields.
It's the second year the military college has held the daylong leadership program. The idea is to foster learning outside the classroom by helping the community.
"A lot of people take for granted just what volunteers do," said David Nance, a Citadel cadet. "They sacrifice time and money, and do things for free.. but it is to the benefit of other people."
