Citadel to host military mentor lunch

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) -- The Citadel African American Studies Program will be hosting a military mentor lunch for 100 junior ROTC students from local high schools.

Among those students will be students from Military Magnet Academy, Burke High School, Stall High School, Lincoln High School and Baptist Hill High School.

Abraham Turner, executive director of the South Carolina Department of Employment and Workforce, will be the guest speaker for the event.

Turner has extensive military training experience including being chief operations officer for the US Army's Training and Doctrine Command at Fort Monroe in Virginia. He retired from active duty in 2011.

Other guests will include Diette Courrege, retired military veterans from the Charleston area and active Citadel military personnel.

The event will be Tuesday, March 20, in the Buyer Auditorium in Mark Hall from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
