Charleston, S.C. -- Catcher Nick Ciuffo (Mount Pleasant, S.C. native) will play in the 2012 Under Armour All-America Game Aug. 18 at Wrigley Field. The game, which showcases 38 of the best high school players in an American vs. National team matchup, will air live nationally at 1:30 eastern on the MLB Network. The players were selected by a committee of Baseball Factory Scouts.
Ciuffo's busy summer also included starting for the East team in the Perfect Game All-American Classic last Sunday from San Diego. Ciuffo went 0-for-1 with a flyout, a walk and a run scored in the East's 7-6 setback to the West. Ciuffo threw out a would-be base stealer and picked another runner off second base. He's the first player from South Carolina to play in both events.
Ciuffo, who plans to sign with the Gamecocks in November, is the nation's 14th rated overall prospect according to Perfect Game scouting service. Seven players from last year's Under Armour All-America Game were selected in the first round of the 2012 MLB Draft. K.J. Woods from Fort Mill will also play in the event.
Ciuffo plays in the summer for the South Carolina Diamond Devils. Former Wando ight-hander Drew Cisco played in the 2009 event.
