ORANGEBURG, S.C. (AP) - Claflin University in Orangeburg has received the largest donation in the school's almost 150 year history.
The Times and Democrat of Orangeburg reports the school has received a $4.3 million donation from Sodexo Corporation.
The donation has moved the historically black school closer to its capital campaign goal of $95 million. The university has now raised $71 million since the campaign began 30 months ago.
Claflin President Henry Tisdale said Sodexo's gift will help pay for a new chapel, a Molecular Science and Research Center and smart classrooms and wireless Internet.
Claflin was founded in 1869.
