CLEMSON, S.C. (AP) - Clemson police continue to investigate the vandalism to Howard's Rock, the touchstone that the Tigers rub before heading down into Death Valley before each home football game.
Police think someone damaged the rock and its Plexiglas covering June 2 or 3.
Police Chief Johnson Link said some finger prints were recovered from the pedestal, which was not damaged. But Link says a review of video from the cameras did not provide anything to help with the investigation.
Clemson coach Dabo Swinney says it's disappointing that someone would disrespect the school's tradition. Swinney says the school will do what is necessary to protect it in the future.
The rock is called "Howard's Rock" because former football coach Frank Howard began the tradition of the pre-game ritual.Copyright 2013 The Associated Press. All rights reserved. This material may not be published, broadcast, rewritten or redistributed.
