CLEMSON, S.C. (AP) - The chairman of Clemson University's board of trustees says the panel won't vote on a plan to ban tobacco use anywhere on campus.
The State newspaper reported (http://bit.ly/1yHig1p) Chairman David Wilkins says the administration, not the board, will handle the plan.
Several trustees said during a committee meeting Thursday they thought the question should go to the board rather than being handled by the president and his staff. But Wilkins said Friday that wouldn't happen.
Clemson now bans smoking in buildings. The new rule would also ban smoking in outdoor areas and add smokeless tobacco to the indoor ban. Wilkins says it would go into effect in July 2015.
The subject was only mentioned at Friday's meeting in reference to a report from a task force that's formulating the policy.
