COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - U.S. Rep. Jim Clyburn says life for most people in South Carolina is not going to improve until voters stop choosing Republicans all the time.
Clyburn is South Carolina's only Democratic congressman. He says Republican leadership in South Carolina has put people in poorer health because of decisions like the refusal to accept federal money to expand Medicaid. Clyburn says people drive on poorer roads because Republicans won't support greater spending on infrastructure.
Clyburn says he thinks the Democratic party is heading in the right direction in South Carolina and the political pendulum will eventually swing back to Democrats.
Clyburn spoke to reporters Wednesday before presenting a Congressional Gold Medal to William Ramseur of Columbia, who was one of the first African-Americans to serve in the Marines.Copyright 2014 The Associated Press.
