      Coast Guard, Charleston Rescue save distressed boater

      CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) - A distressed boater had to be rescued from the Ashley River Thursday afternoon.

      According to officials, the U.S. Coast Guard and Charleston County Rescue Squad were called to an area of the river near the City Marina after someone called 911 to report a boater hanging on the the side of a capsized boat.{}Officials said the caller grabbed a life jacket and jumped into the water to help the boater. A civilian boat and a Charleston Fire Department boat came to their aid.{}

      The boater was taken to a nearby hospital, but the other man who jumped into the water refused treatment.{}
