CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) -- The Coast Guard rescued a man whose vessel was sinking Saturday at the entrance to the North Edisto River near Kiawah Island.
According to Coast Guard officials, watchstanders at the Coast Guard Sector Charleston command center were notified by Sea Tow Charleston of a 31-foot Sea Ray vessel that had run aground and was sinking.
A helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Facility Charleston responded and hoisted the man, who suffered minor injuries. After hoisting the individual, the vessel sank and capsized.
He was taken to Medical University of South Carolina, officials said.
A crew aboard a 29-foot special purpose boat from Coast Guard Station Charleston was also on scene and spent the evening monitoring for potential pollution near the sinking.
