CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) -- The Coast Guard is towing a fishing boat back to shore after three people were stranded in it, 63 miles east of Mount Pleasant on Friday. The trio was too far off shore to communicate with their VHF-FM radio, officials said, so they activated the vessel's Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacon at about 10:54 a.m.
The equipment provided GPS coordinates to the Coast Guard.
The 44-foot boat was located by an aircrew.
A Coast Guard boat arrived at about 4:55 p.m. and crews are towing the boat toward Charleston. Officials expect them to arrive at about 6 a.m. on Saturday.
Officials said the boat became stranded after its battery died.
