CofC president candidates to visit campus next week

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) - The three remaining candidates forthe College of Charleston's presidential search will visit the campus nextweek, officials announced Thursday afternoon.

The remaining candidates are Dennis Encarnation, GlennMcConnell, and Martha Saunders.

Encarnation, a retired international business consultant andfaculty member from Harvard University as well as a current member of the College's Foundation, will visit the campus on Wednesday; Lt.Gov. McConnell will visit the school on Thursday; and Saunders, a provost andprofessor at the University of West Florida, will visit the campus on Friday.

College officials are still working on the schedules for thethree candidates.

Each person will be given an opportunity to speak withfaculty, staff, students, alumni, and members of the community.

Earlier this week, Andrew H. Card, Jr., who was named as afinalist in the search, has decided to stand down at this time.

The current president, George Benson, announced he wasstepping down late last year and would be rejoining the ranks of the faculty inthe business school. Benson's tenure at the College began in 2007 after leavingthe Terry School of Business at the University of Georgia.
