WALTERBORO -- The streak is over. Colleton County's 36-game losing streak came to an end on Thursday night as the Cougars knocked off the Wando Warriors, 40-37.
Quarterback Ramon Hall threw for 227 yards and two touchdowns while adding a rushing score as well to lift the Cougars to the monumental victory.
"We worked so hard and dealt with all the negativity for so long, but every man on this team knew this day would come," said a tearful Hall. "I see this team every day in practice and I know how hard we work. From the first day of this season, I knew we would win. The community needed this and our coaches needed this. They had our backs from the day they got here."
Hall's 15-yard touchdown pass to Bruce Holmes with 3:27 to play put Colleton County up, 33-30. A minute later, Tristan Pontoon picked off a Bailey Hart pass over the middle and raced untouched 54 yards for a touchdown.
Wando scored a late touchdown, but Colleton County recovered an onside kick with 11 seconds left in the game, setting off a wild celebration on the field.
