NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) -- City leaders move forward with a plan to bring year round swimming opportunities to the Danny Jones Recreation Complex.
On Thursday, North Charleston's Finance Committee voted to appropriate $750,000 toward heating and enclosing the facilities' pool.
According to city spokesman Ryan Johnson, at least $250,000 will come from fund raising.
"The funding will have to go to City Council for final approval, which should be next Thursday, May 24," Johnson said.
North Charleston officials say the project will not only allow for more recreational swimming, but also training opportunities for competitive swimming.
The Danny Jones pool was originally constructed in 1955 and refurbished in the late 1970's.
Project officials will now decide on the type of enclosure they want to use, and secure the installation.
