Construction begins on Myrtle Beach sports complex
MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (AP) -- Construction is beginning on a new $13 million indoor sports complex in Myrtle Beach.
Work begins on Monday on the 100,000-square foot facility being built adjacent to the Myrtle Beach Convention Center. The complex is expected to be finished next year at this time.
The complex will have hardwood floors that can be configured for eight full-size basketball courts or 16 volleyball courts. The facility can also be used for other indoor sports, will seat 1,500 and will also have a cafe and retail space.
The City of Myrtle Beach has already booked 20 tournaments into the new center for next year. They include a 128-team volleyball tournament set for the weekend of March 21, 2015.
