Cops: Spartanburg man lied about slaying to 911
SPARTANBURG, S.C. (AP) - Spartanburg County deputies say they arrested a man who called 911 and lied about killing someone.
Authorities say the emergency call Sunday sent several officers to a Cowpens address where a woman in the home told them she had no idea what was going on.
Deputies say the woman suggested her ex-husband may have made the call because she was harassing her over the phone. Investigators checked cellphone records and found the call came from a tower near a motel where 56-year-old Joseph Ledford was staying.
Ledford was charged with filing a false police report of a felony and unlawful use of 911. He remained at the jail Monday afternoon. It wasn't clear if he had an attorney.Copyright 2012 The Associated Press. All rights reserved. This material may not be published, broadcast, rewritten or redistributed.
