Coroner: One person in Dorchester Co. has died from the flu

DORCHESTER, S.C. (WCIV) -- The Dorchester coroner said one person has died of the flu.

The coroner reports a 39-year-old man had the flu for about a week before he was taken to the hospital where he later died in the Emergency Room.{} Nesbit confirmed the man was healthy before he got the flu.

Symptoms included chest congestion and difficulty breathing{}according to family members, the coroner said. {}

According to Coroner Chris Nesbit, the Newberry Pathologist verified that it was a "confirmed case of Strain B Influenza."{}

The man died from respiratory failure due to bilateral pneumonia. {}

Coroner Nesbit reminds all citizens to seek medical attention{}in the event they are experiencing flu like symptoms.
