NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) -- Charleston County is hosting a community meeting Tuesday night to introduce their plan for a new airport connector road.
The meeting is being held at Goodwin Elementary School (5501 Dorchester Road) at 6 p.m. and will end around 8 p.m. The public is invited to offer up questions and comments on the proposed road.
An early rendering of the plan is available online. The design process started in October.
Project specialists are gathering traffic data, conducting surveys on topography and analyzing project information to help them decide between traffic alternatives and figure out permitting needs. They're also looking at existing structures, drainage and wetlands.
The idea behind the Airport Connector Road Project is to pave three miles of road connecting Montague Avenue to Dorchester Road. Officials hope the new road will ease congestion near the Mark Clark Expressway.
The connector would also provide new access to the Charleston Airport.
