1 arrested, 2nd suspect sought in downtown Charleston killing

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) -- One man has been arrested in connection to a murder that happened Tuesday afternoon on Jackson Street in downtown Charleston.{}

Police are now searching for a second suspect, they said in a release Wednesday morning.

According to police, 17-year-old Kareem McPherson, of Grove Street in Charleston, has been charged with murder and failure to stop for blue lights. He is being held in the Al Cannon Detention Center and has a bond hearing set for 2 p.m. Wednesday.

Police are also looking for another 17-year-old, Sequoia McKinnon, of North Charleston. Officials said they will charge him with possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime and murder.

Police say the shooting happened around 4 p.m. Tuesday near the dugouts at Martin Park.

The victim was taken to Medical University Hospital where he died. He has been identified as 22-year-old Rhakym Capers of Charleston. The coroner reports he died from a gunshot wound.
