Crash into BBQ barn nets DUI charge
CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) -- A Charleston man is facing a drunk driving charge after police say he crashed into a barn at a barbecue restaurant early Monday.
Police were called just after 2 a.m. to White Oak Drive and Savannah Highway, Bessinger's BBQ, Monday. There, they found a Ford pickup with heavy damage to its front end.
Also, according to a report from the Charleston Police Department, Max Graber was walking around the area, bleeding from the ear.
Police say Graber told them he finished a shift at Red Lobster and then went to another location and drank four beers. Investigators say Graber said he believed a red car struck him as he was driving and caused him to drive into the building.
A parking block and a pillar that supports a barn on the property were damaged, according to the report.
Graber "smelled strongly of an alcoholic beverage," police wrote in the report.
