Crisis Ministries awarded $2 million grant to help veterans

      CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) -- Crisis Ministries was awarded a $2 million grant that it will used to assist homeless veterans, officials announced in a release on Monday.The grant comes from the Department of Veterans Affairs Supportive Services for Veteran Families (SSVF) program.It will allow Crisis Ministries to provide case management and supportive services to assist homeless veterans or those at risk of losing their housing. Officials with the non-profit said the funds may also be used to provide assistance with rent and utilities. According to the release, Crisis Ministries has already assisted 750 veterans and their families with past funding, and officials anticipate serving an additional 500 veterans throughout the next year. The VA awarded a total of $300 million in grants to assist approximately 120,000 homeless and at-risk Veterans and their families to 319 agencies in 50 states, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands.
