Deck collapse on Pawley's Island injures 11

PAWLEY'S ISLAND, S.C. (WCIV) -- A deck collapsed injuring 11 people people Friday evening in Pawley's Island.

According to officials, the deck collapsed around 6:15 p.m. The 11 people injured were tended to by EMS teams. One person's injuries did appear serious, officials said.

Pawley's Island Police Chief Michael Fanning ABC affiliate WPDE that when the second-floor deck collapsed, it was like a "trap-door effect," and people landed on top of each other.

Midway Fire Rescue Chief Doug Eggiman says a deck at the Sea View Inn fell in at around 6:30 p.m. Friday.

Eggiman says the porch was on the beach side of the property and was at least 10 feet off the ground. A dozen people were taken to hospitals for treatment.

Authorities have not said what caused the collapse. But officials have said that the rest of the building was determined to be stable.
