Defense secretary to tour Joint Base Charleston
JOINT BASE CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) -- Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel will tour Joint Base Charleston next week as part of a three-day trip around the country.
According to Joint Base officials, Hagel will arrive Tuesday night after a tour of Air Station Jacksonville, in Florida. During his stay at Joint Base Charleston he will meet with military families, defense contractors and city leaders.
"Given the significant impact budget reductions are having on uniformed and civilian personnel, Secretary Hagel believes it is a critical time to visit military installations and hear directly from the men and women of the DOD," a statement from the base reads.
Sequence of Events: 9:15 - 10 a.m. - Air Force Showcase at Nose Dock 2A variety of units will showcase flying operations, support operations and aeromedical capabilities provided by the Airmen assigned to Joint Base Charleston10:15 - 10:45 a.m. - C-17A Engine Test/Repair Center TourRepresentatives from Boeing will demonstrate the engine maintenance support provided to the 437th and 315th Airlift Wings to facilitate their global air mobility mission11 - 11:40 a.m. - Civilian Employee Town Hall MeetingThe secretary will host an open forum for approximately 300 Air Force Civilian workers to discuss the current challenges posed by sequestration and the DOD-wide civilian FurloughThe Secretary will then depart Joint Base Charleston to continue his tour at Camp Lejune, N.C.
