Deputies capture wanted man in fatal Dorchester club shooting

COLLETON COUNTY, S.C. (WCIV) -- A man wanted in connection to a Dorchester County club shooting was arrested by Colleton County deputies Tuesday night.

According to Sheriff Strickland, deputies, a SWAT team, state law enforcement officials and U.S. Marshals captured Dashawn Trevell Brown in the Fox Field subdivision near Walterboro.

Brown is wanted for murder by the Dorchester County Sheriff's Office for a shooting at a club in July.

According to a release from Colleton County deputies, people inside the home voluntarily left the home and told officers that Brown was in the house.

Brown refused to come out, however, so agents executed a search warrant and found Brown hiding in a bedroom between mattresses, officials said.

"I am proud that law enforcement agencies worked together to take such a fugitive charged with murder into custody, especially after observing how our Sheriff's Office SWAT team methodically performed to bring this incident to a peaceful end.{} In what could have been a violent situation, their many hours of training paid off and no one was injured.{} I am confident that they could have handled any threat they may have encountered" said Strickland.{}

On July 14, Sierra Truesdale, of Goose Creek, was killed as she tried to hide from gunfire.

Truesdale's friends told deputies that they were celebrating her birthday. They said everyone was dancing and having a good time until a Walterboro group known as the "Cowboys" walked in, put American flag bandannas over their faces, walked out of the club and "fired off rounds" before leaving the scene.

Four more victims later showed up at the Colleton Medical Center. They had been taken there by witnesses at the scene who initially stopped to tell deputies they had victims in their SUVs before speeding off with their hazard lights on.
