Deputies: Driver wrecks on Wadmalaw Island

      WADMALAW ISLAND, S.C. (WCIV) -- A driver ran off the road on Wadmalaw Island on Christmas Day, officials said. Crews were able to free the passenger from the wrecked truck.{}

      According to Charleston County deputies, the accident happened on Bear's Bluff Road near Hart's Bluff Road shortly before 2 p.m.

      A passenger in the Toyota truck had non-life-threatening injuries, but officials said that person would be airlifted to a nearby hospital once crews got the person out of the vehicle.

      A child was also in the truck, deputies said. However, the child only sustained minor injuries and was only transported by EMS as a precaution.

      The cause of the accident is still under investigation, officials said.
