Deputies look for man throwing rocks at cars

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- Richland County deputies say nearly a dozen drivers have reported rocks being thrown at their cars from bridges.

Nearly all the incidents happened between Jan. 12 and Jan. 14 in the northwest part of the county. Investigators say several people were taken to the hospital after a large rock struck the windshield of a car Jan. 12 on Interstate 26.

Deputies say several drivers reported seeing the person throwing the rocks get into an older-model white pickup.

Authorities say the rock thrower could be charged with attempted murder.
