Deputies make arrest in Johns Island homicide

JOHNS ISLAND, S.C. (WCIV) -- Charleston County deputies on Friday arrested a 19-year-old man in connection with a fatal shooting on Johns Island that happened a week earlier.{}

According to deputies, Carlton Solomon was arrested in the shooting death investigation of Donetta Heyward. He was also charged with first-degree burglary.

Deputies say three men kicked in the door to Heyward's home. One person was hit in the head while Heyward was dragged outside and shot.{}

Moments later, Heyward ran inside and said she had been shot. Deputies and an EMS crew were sent to the scene and Heyward was taken to Medical University Hospital where she later died.

The male victim was also transported to St. Francis Hospital where he was treated for his head injuries and later released.

Solomon's bond hearing is set for 9 a.m. Saturday.

This is still an on-going investigation, deputies said.
