Deputies: Man beats woman with piece of wood

ORANGEBURG, S.C. (WCIV) - A man wanted for beating a woman with a piece of wood was captured in Orangeburg County on Monday, deputies said.

According to the Orangeburg County Sheriff's Office, 40-year-old Michael Patterson was wanted for beating a 45-year-old woman with a piece of wood. Deputies found the woman at a Skyland Drive home with several injuries to her face.

"Our investigation indicates Michael Patterson was released from jail on Sunday for assaulting the victim in December 2012. He went straight to the victim's home to collect some personal belongings. The victim and Patterson argued. Patterson struck the victim in her face and dragged her to the yard where he continued to punch her," said{}Orangeburg County Sheriff Leroy Ravenell.

According to officials, Patterson picked up a piece of wood and hit the woman with it several times.

The people who took Patterson to the woman's home helped Patterson flee the area before officers arrived.

"The assault this victim suffered, a second time by the hands of Patterson, is senseless. And for him to beat her so severely in front of their children shows what kind of man he really is," said Ravenell.

The children are being cared for by a family member.
