Deputies: Man fired gun at Trooper during traffic stop
KINGSTREE, S.C. (WCIV) - Williamsburg County deputies are looking for a man they say opened fire on a state Trooper during a traffic stop early Saturday morning.
According to deputies, Dwayne Brown is wanted on charges of attempted murder, weapons charges and traffic crimes by Williamsburg County deputies at the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
Officials say Brown was stopped by a Trooper in Kingstree around 1:30 a.m. Saturday. During the stop, the Trooper asked Brown to exit the vehicle, but he refused, a report states.
An altercation between Brown and the Trooper followed, and Brown pulled out a gun and fired a shot at the trooper, according to the report. Then Brown ran from the area.
On Sunday night, Brown was turned over to deputies by his attorney.
According to officials, he was charged with attempted murder, possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime, and possession of a weapon by an unlawful person by Williamsburg County deputies. Highway Patrol charged him with first- and second-degree DUI and resisting arrest with deadly violence.
Information on a bond hearing was not immediately available.
