Deputies: Man accidentally shot by son

NORTH, S.C. (WCIV) -- Deputies say a Orangeburg juvenile showed remorse after firing a shot that put his father in the hospital.

According to the Orangeburg County Sheriff's Office the incident happened just before 2 a.m. on Thursday at a home on Drag Strip road.

Deputies say when they arrived the victim's son said he accidentally shot his father when they went outside to look for a trespasser.

According to an incident report the father and son got separated during the search, and when the son spotted what he thought was an intruder, he attempted to communicate. He told deputies that when the person did not respond, he fired a single shot from a .22 caliber rifle.

The Sheriff's Office says the bullet hit the boy's 35-year-old father Steven Graham in the arm and the chest. Graham was airlifted to Palmetto Health Richland Memorial Hospital to be treated.

At this time no charges are being filed.
