Bond set at $15,000 for detention center officer

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) -- Bond was set Thursday morning at $15,000 for the Charleston County detention center officer accused of providing contraband to inmates.

Sheriff's detectives accused 33-year-old Venetia D. White of giving alcohol and a cell phone to prisoners. According to CCSO officials, White was charged with misconduct in office and furnishing contraband to a prisoner.Officials said the investigation started last week after a cellphone was found in a jail cell at the Al Cannon Detention Center.Investigators said White, who was employed as a detention officer, gave the cellphone to inmates and also provided mini bottles of alcohol, electrical tape and lighters as well.Officials don't believe any other detention center employees were involved. White, who was hired in August of 2011, was placed on unpaid administrative leave after her arrest.

White was terminated Thursday as a result of her arrest, sheriff's office officials said.
