WEST ASHLEY, S.C. (WCIV) -- A man who filed suit against the Charleston County Sheriff's Office for a beating he suffered at the hands of a deputy has been arrested again.
According to a police report, Devante Pittman was arrested and charged on Thursday with unlawful carry of a handgun.
The report states Pittman was inside a Citadel Mall store when he became belligerent with a store employee after his debit card was rejected. Pittman became verbally abusive and police were called, according to the report.
When officers arrived, they checked him for weapons, finding a .38-caliber handgun in his pants. According to the report, Pittman does not have a concealed weapons permit, so he was arrested.
His bond was set at $50,000.
This is not the first time Pittman has been arrested since suing the sheriff's office.
In April, he was arrested and charged with possession of a stolen vehicle, receiving stolen goods and second-degree assault and battery.
At the time of that arrest, Pittman was out on bail for third-degree assault and battery charges stemming from the November 2012 incident in which he said the arresting deputy should have been charged.
