SUMMERVILLE, S.C. (WCIV) Police spent the early part of Thursday morning investigating a fatal shooting on Lilac Drive in the Robynwyn subdivision of Summerville.

According to Captain Jon Rogers shots were fired shortly before midnight, leaving one man dead.

No arrests have been made, but investigators say the suspect was last seen driving a brown or silver midsize car with several people inside.

A motive for the deadly shooting is unknown at this time.

Rogers says they are not releasing the name of the victim, a 36-year-old black male, until they notify the family.{}

According to the coroner, 36-year-old John Elliot Hancock was sitting in a car in his mother's driveway on Lilac Drive, with another man (relative) and a woman, "when a car drove up and a person or persons got out and started shooting."

The coroner says Hancock was struck multiple times and was pronounced dead in the front yard.

"It is unclear, to me, at this time if he was first struck while in the vehicle, but he was{}{}{} obviously (sic) struck multiple times outside of the vehicle," said Dorchester County Coroner Chris Nesbit. "It is very interesting to me that he was the only one hit, being that SPD recovered dozens of shell casings."

If anyone has any information on this or any other crime they are asked to call the Summerville Police Department (871-2463) or Crime Stoppers (554-1111).
