DORCHESTER COUNTY, S.C. (WCIV) -- Dorchester School District 2 staffers recommended Monday night to the Board of Trustees to extend the time to consider proposed bell changes.
Now district leaders have extended the period for discussion until December.
Last month, district leaders proposed shifting the bell schedules and pitched the idea to parents and the community through meetings and an online survey.
District officials say nearly 6,000 surveys were submitted, most of which were in favor of the proposed changes.
However, the Board agreed that they needed more time to inform the community about the rationale behind the proposed changes. The Board also wanted to look at the effects the changes would have on the school day for the students and buses.
"In addition, this will provide more opportunities to gather feedback on the proposed changes from parents, teachers, and the community through meetings and additional surveys," a release from the district reads.
At the end of the year, officials will present a revised proposal to the Board of Trustees for the 2015-16 school year.
