Deputies: Kidnapped 8-day-old baby has been found

CHARLESTON COUNTY, S.C. (WCIV) -- An 8-day-old infant abducted from outside a Ladson drug store has been found, Charleston County deputies said Wednesday night.

The baby was taken to Trident Medical Center to be checked out and reunited with his mother, officials said. The baby appeared to be in good health.{}

The suspect, April Michelle Hernandez del Rio, 31, has been charged with kidnapping, officials said.

The child was abducted Wednesday afternoon, according to Charleston County Dispatch officials.{}

According to officials, deputies were called to a CVS store on Highway 78 in Ladson around 4 p.m. Wednesday. A mother told deputies she and her 8-day-old baby boy went to the store with Hernandez del Rio.{}

When the mother went inside to shop, she left her baby with Hernandez del Rio in the car. When she returned, the car, the other woman and her baby were gone, deputies said.{}

Hernandez del Rio was driving a white Pontiac Bonneville. Police described her as a white woman, about 5-feet 9-inches tall and 200 pounds, last seen wearing a blue long-sleeved shirt and sweat pants.{}

Officials said there was also another person in the car at the time of the abduction, but he was not involved.

Hernandez del Rio will have a bond hearing at 2 p.m. Thursday.
