NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) -- A second woman has been killed in a shooting in North Charleston on New Year's Day, police said Wednesday evening.
According to officials, the shooting happened on the 4400 block on Ventura Drive shortly before 7 p.m. Police were called to a reported shooting and found a woman on the floor inside a home there.
She was pronounced dead at the scene.
On Thursday, the coroner's office identified the victim as 49-year-old Debra Randall Martin. She died from a gunshot wound to the back, officials said.
Police say a family member inside the home heard gun shots and then found the unnamed woman lying on the floor.
According to police, shell casings were found in the front yard and it appears the front of the house was also hit during the shooting.
A police report states that officers entered the home to find the victim covered in blood. The woman's daughter was with her.
This is the third shooting -- two of which have been fatal -- of the day in North Charleston.
Early Wednesday morning, there were a pair of shootings at homes near Azalea Drive and Dorchester Road. In one of the shootings, the victim died. The coroner's office has not released that woman's name yet.
In the other shooting, the woman was taken to Medical University Hospital for treatment.
Police have not released information about suspects or a motive in either shooting.
